Our books and monographsOur catalogues are a key element of our activity as a gallery. We invest huge amounts of time and research in them, because we want our publications to be complete and authoritative works of art history. The aim is always to give a proper account of the works that we have handled – one that is academically and scientifically sound, but also lively and engaging. To that end, we tap into a vast network of expertise, both in-house (where we have a specialist researcher) and outside the gallery. In this way we are able to garner the best scholarly views on a work, provide context and background to paintings or groups of paintings, create a panoramic overview of an era or an artist – or, sometimes, make entirely fresh art-historical discoveries. Our library of catalogues are made available online. This is one of several archival resources that we are keen to make accessible to the art-loving public.
After a frustrating year-and-a-half, in which it was impossible to travel with our paintings, we were delighted to be able to present some newly acquired works. In this catalogue, each artist is represented by a distinctive and exceptional piece.

The book contained masterpieces from the fifteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, among them Maarten van Heemskerck’s Entombment of Christ.

The Fondation Baur in Geneva invited us to take part in this beautiful and timely exhibition about the the development of relations between East Asia and Europe: commercial, cultural and artistic. We loaned seven still-lifes, and Alice Frech co-wrote the exhibition catalogue, which was published with 5 Continents.

There is a definite affinity between Lucio Fontana and Alexander Calder on the one hand, and the Flemish Masters on the other. That resonance is to do with colour above all. This, our sixtieth catalogue, opened new horizons for lovers of golden-age Flemish painting, as well for aficionados of Calder and Fontana.

This collection juxtaposed Old Masters and contemporary artists – and so typified the two facets of our activity. Exhibited at Biennale des Antiquaires in Paris, the mix of works amounted to a celebration of the kind of painting we like best. This catalogue also marked the beginning of our collaboration with the Swiss graphic designer Séverine Mailler.

This was the catalogue for the first exhibition to be held in our Geneva gallery, which opened in April 2011. The exhibition featured recent acquisitions which, taken together, showcased the incredible variety of subjects painted by the great Flemish Masters. The exhibition amounted to a kind of cabinet of curiosities, a space filled with wonderful and unexpected things.

Among the Flemish treasures in the catalogue was an extraordinary set of Twelve Months by Abel Grimmer, just the kind of thrilling piece that we love to find. It was extraordinary that all twelve pieces had remained together.
