It’s always a joy to see you in Paris. And although there is no Biennale this autumn, we shall nevertheless be able to receive you in a splendid townhouse on the Rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré for a Rencontre de maîtres. Together with the Galerie Léage, we have organised an exhibition that will arouse the curiosity of collectors of 18th century furniture and decorative arts, as well as enthusiasts of Flemish or modern painting. Here, you will be plunged into the varnished atmosphere of this illustrious gallery, which was once located just a few doors away from our own.
You will be able to enjoy to the masterpieces of our favourite artists such as Pieter Brueghel the Younger, Abel Grimmer or François Clouet. Be sure to admire the masterpieces of the landscape genre, especially Pieter Gijsels’ highly refined mountainous panoramic landscape with a view of a town and an estuary, as well as microscopic characters, just like the painting kept at the Städel in Frankfurt. There are also winter landscapes, like the one by Gijsbrecht Leytens which plunges the viewer into a tormented atmosphere, whose secret lies in the careful lighting outlining the sinuous branches of the majestic trees. The scene of everyday life by Anthonie Vertraelen exudes a joyful atmosphere, where the villagers’ games open onto a view of a delightful castle. Jan Brueghel the Elder’s rustic landscape is marked by its azure blue sky, while the vedute of Venice plunge you into the warm and festive atmosphere of the City of the Doges.
This collaboration also provides the opportunity to step beyond the barriers of time and combine furniture from the 17th century and the Age of Enlightenment with modern and contemporary works, dominated by colour, such as those by Lucio Fontana, Enrico Castellani or Damien Hirst.
