Before everyone heads off to their summer quarters, there’s an unmissable week in London!
Exhibitions, major old masters auctions and, above all, our participation in Masterpiece at the Chelsea Royal Hospital! A selection of old and modern paintings will be exhibited at our stand, C7.
Cranach, Pieter Brueghel the Younger, Jan van Kessel and Batholomeus Bruyn will all be present as well as the grandiose portrayal of Earthly paradise by Jan Brueghel the Younger. Fauna and flora attract the favours of the painter, who places Adam and Eve in the background of the composition. This work, a symbol of the golden age, stems from his father’s painting of 1615, which you can admire in the royal collections at Hampton Court Palace, just outside London.
As for the Moderns, summer is definitely on the agenda: a rediscovered large-format painting by the artist Clémentine-Helène Dufau dated 1927, will plunge you into the interwar period: with one sporting a bob and the other a beret, the characters in this splendid painting invite us to the Port of Antibes. A breath of sea air is guaranteed with a pretty pair of seascapes by Alfred Stevens, or how about a dive into the deep with Castellani? There’s no doubt, summer is here and it will be our pleasure to welcome you at Masterpiece!
