J-7 WE COULDN’T BE MORE EXCITED!

Everything’s packed and ready to be exhibited.

This year, we have an astonishing selection of paintings for you. And among the various masterpieces we are thrilled to present to you, is an exceptional bouquet of flowers to herald the arrival of Spring : the recent discovery of a splendid painting by the master Ambrosius Bosschaert (Antwerp 1573 – The Hague 1621), the first painter to dedicate himself solely to painting bouquets of flowers.

Ambrosius Bosschaert played a leading role in flower painting in the 17th century: these depictions of bouquets placed in front of a landscape were probably executed between 1619 and 1621. Our example now brings the number of them up to eight. In a remarkable state of conservation, with its fresh colours and the great beauty of its composition, this oak panel monogrammed AB is certainly one of the masterpieces of an audacious painter of flowers, who was the first to set his bouquets against a landscape.

Alongside this explosion of colour is Johann König’s spirited Conversion of St. Paul. Not forgetting Adriaen Isenbrant and a majestic Beata Virgo. Pieter Brueghel the Younger is certainly not to be outdone, with the presentation of his iconic subjects: Peasants warming or Wedding Dance. And how about snow with Leytens, or a Rest on the Flight into Egypt by the Master of the Female Half-Length? There will be no shortage of landscapes, to be sure, and you will be blown away by the magnificent Return from the Hunt by Abraham Govaerts and Alexander Keirincx, where you will be plunged into the undergrowth at the edge of the woods.

Food for a few dreams, some of which will become reality… We shall be delighted to welcome you at the finest fair of the year, in Maastricht!
